Hong Kong has long been an important hub for finance and technology. But the city has also proven to be a global leader in art, music and sport. In addition to its many professional sports leagues, Hong Kong has several prestigious art prizes that attract artists from around the world. Some of the most well-known art prizes include the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Award and the Sovereign Asian Art Prize.
The 25th Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon will feature increased prize money for local runners under the ’Special Incentive Award for Marathon’ category. This is the first time the event has done this and will reward permanent residents who cross the finish line in under 3 hours for men or sub 3:30 for women. The prize money will increase from HK$5 million to HK$8 million.
HKJC has strict standards for the lottery draw and ensures fairness by carrying out regular tests and inspections of its equipment and procedures. The balls used in the draw are measured, weighed and examined using X-Rays on a regular basis. Employees from the security and customer service departments check every aspect of the drawing process. The balls are not reused and each set of draws is carried out by a different person to avoid any bias.
Prizes awarded by the Hong Kong Film Awards are voted on by a group of registered voters that includes members from 13 professional film bodies and critics. The voting is conducted January through March each year. The winning films are announced at the HKFA gala in June.
Run Run Shaw Prize, named after the Hong Kong media mogul and philanthropist, honors young people who show promise in science. The Foundation aims to inspire and nurture the next generation of scientists, especially in China, a region that has a rich tradition in science and technology. The Prize has been awarded since 2007.
The BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE identifies and rewards research in the fields of Hong Kong’s scientific and technological innovation, such as Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy and Advanced Manufacturing. Candidates should be nominated by their employers, academic institutions or professional bodies. The nomination should include a description of the research and an outline of its impact and benefits. The maximum number of persons nominated as a team is five.
To guarantee the impartiality and objectivity of the evaluation, a special secretariat is established to handle the work. Its staff include professionals from law, finance, accounting, auditing and public affairs. They are responsible for the liaison between the Board, Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team; arranging interdisciplinary academic activities and science popularization activities; and organizing award ceremonies. They are also in charge of ensuring the implementation of decisions made by the Board and the Review Committee. They also shoulder the responsibility of coordinating and overseeing the activities of the BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY innovaTION PRIZE.
